Jillian Friedman is a member of the Quebec bar and practices commercial and financial services law in the e-commerce and cryptocurrency industry. She obtained an LL.B. and J.D. from Université de Montréal and holds a B.A., honours in Political Science from McGill University. Jillian’s legal experience includes working at a major national law firm, specifically in the area of financial services and commercial law.

Jillian is very involved in the digital currency landscape. She has spoken on consumer law and Canada’s regulatory landscape at conferences in Toronto and Amsterdam. She is the author of a number of publications, including an article in the Supreme Court Law Review and has been featured on the Huffington Post. She has also published a legal and regulatory update on Bitcoin and Canadian law and maintains an online newsletter, BitcoinLegal.ca . In late 2014 she presented on the legal ramifications of digital currency before the Canadian Senate. A book on Bitcoin and the law that she co-edited is due for publication in 2015. She also acts as counsel to the Bitcoin Embassy, a Montreal based hotspot for cryptocurrency and is a director of the Bitcoin Foundation Canada.
